Magic Speed Reading Speed Reading Program
Strengthen your reading skills with Magic Speed Reading.
The Magic Speed Reading program, founded by Serge Mikhailov, is a software program that uses computer-generated visual exercises to familiarize readers with the perceptual strategies and skills of speed reading.
Magic Speed Reading software is produced by AbabaSoft, a software company that produces diverse online applications.
Magic Speed Reading allows users to participate in free online speed reading training exercises. The exercises are based on the principle that all writing consists of at least 50% unnecessary words. The speed reading program is designed to teach users how to spot the necessary words quickly and read for meaning. The program also believes that the human mind can read words like hieroglyphics, by seeing a "picture" or image and understanding the meaning of it right away.
Other principles the Magic Speed Reading program utilizes include reading with your peripheral vision, reading without sub-vocalizing words (articulating words in your head) and paying closer attention to the meaning of a text. It includes dozens of techniques such as "Flash Reading", "Mixed Letters" training, "Shultz Tables" exercises for expanding peripheral vision, "Metronome", a technique based on rhythm, the "Reading in Windows" technique which divides the text into fragments, and the "Angle of Vision" technique.
Serge Mikhailov, the founder of the Magic Speed Reading program, suggests spending 20 minutes on speed-reading techniques every other day for two weeks in order to double your reading speed.
According to the Magic Speed Reading website, most people read at an average of 200 words per minute. By increasing their speed by only 100 words per minute (a 40% increase), they could read as many as twelve more books a year. Speed reading is essential in many professions, and certainly a skill worth investing in.
There are multiple speed reading programs on the market, including Vortex Speed Reading, Evelyn Wood Reader Dynamics, AceReader and Reader's Edge. Magic Speed Reading distinguishes itself due to the wide variety of techniques it offers, its low cost and its online accessiblity.
